Elmas, big fire near the airport: the railway line also closed

The flames attacked a reed thicket in the area of the Elmas football field, close to the airport runway.

A vast fire that created many problems for the fire brigade teams who intervened to put out the blaze. Thick smoke rose, invading the sports area and also the Mameli airport. And being close to the railway line, the passage of trains was temporarily prohibited.

The fire devoured a large part of the reeds and vegetation : the firefighters who arrived on site with various means were immediately notified. The flames, also driven by the wind, developed near the railway line.

And the smoke also reached the final part of the runway at Elmas airport. For now, no disruptions have been reported on air connections, while rail traffic has been closed as a precaution.
