The political landscape in Porto Torres is heating up two and a half months before the election, with the dates already set—June 7 and 8—for an electoral contest that promises to be lively, with four main political factions in the running. From traditional parties to civic lists and movements, with names in the running and active social media, the next few hours could be crucial in clarifying the balance of power and deciding the outcome. The center-right's decision remains unresolved, as it must finalize the candidacy of Ivan Cermelli, the League's group leader in the city council, who will likely lead a civic list without a League symbol.
A figure who is also expected to be supported by Forza Italia and Fratelli d'Italia. The center-left coalition, which reflects the Campo largo forces in the Region—Democratic Party, Orizzonte Comune, Progetto Turritano, AVS, +Europa, M5S, Progressisti, PSI, and the autonomist group Porto Torres Avanti—has five lists already eyeing the candidacy of outgoing mayor Massimo Mulas. Among the candidates for the Democratic Party, the party that chose former mayor Luciano Mura as its campaign coordinator, are incumbent city councilors Antonello Cabitta, Gavino Sanna, and Gianpiero Madeddu, as well as current councilors Maria Bastiana Cocco, Alessandro Carta, and Massimiliano Ledda. For Orizzonte Comune, the candidates are Prime Minister Franco Satta, the outgoing secretary of the PSD'Az, Emanuele Riu, and the Councilor for Commerce, Claudio Piras. A list of young people in the AVS (Green and Left Alliance) party, where the youngest candidate, Francesco Calvia, a 23-year-old with a degree in economics, is also in the running. Architect Antonio Cossu, lawyer Giulia Manca, and outgoing councilor Gaetano Mura are also in the running. For the Progressives, Mauro Manis, an official from the Sassari Industrial Consortium, is in the running.
For the Socialist Party, former Prime Minister Gavino Bigella, Fabrizio Battino, and +Europa's Kati Nieddu are running. For Porto Torres, top manager Nanni Arru, third sector expert Francesco Frisciano, and Valentina Chessa, a graduate in economics, are running next on the list. Loredana De Marco, a member of the former Five Star Movement activist group in Porto Torres and former city council president in the Wheeler administration, has formally announced her candidacy for mayor, proposing to present her governing team before the elections. Instead of a Five Star Movement symbol, she is instead running for civic power with the "Porto Torres c'è" (Porto Torres is Here) list, which has the full political support of Sinistra Futura and Sardegna Chiama Sardegna. Among the candidates are restaurateur Massimo Pintus and former councilor Samuela Falchi. Also running for the tricolor sash is lawyer Sara Dettori, supported by the civic identity coalition of Sardegna Vera, Sardegna al Centro, and the Partito sardo d'azione (Sardinian Action Party). Among the candidates for the Psd'Az are lawyers Costantino Biello and Barbara Cantini, while former councilors Carlo Cossu and Michele Bassu are running again for the Sardegna Vera list, and physician Anita Giaconi for Sardegna al Centro.
