The beating of Michele Oppo , the 71-year-old from San Vero Milis found tied up in his sheepfold in the Sinis countryside on Friday evening , may have been a very strong warning . The man is still hospitalized in San Gavino after spending over twelve hours with his wrists immobilized and a series of abrasions and wounds due to the beatings . His condition is improving, and he was interviewed yesterday by the Carabinieri who are trying to reconstruct what happened. The details that Oppo will be able to provide will be fundamental, but other elements useful to the investigation could also come from the inspection carried out by the military in the warehouse. The investigators also interviewed at length the owner of the company, adjacent to that of the 71-year-old, who raised the alarm on Friday afternoon.

According to initial investigations, Oppo was beaten up on Thursday and left in the shed with his wrists tied and without any possibility of calling for help. A night and almost an entire day spent in precarious conditions, so much so that when he was found he was in hypothermia. The attacker (it is not clear if there were accomplices) presumably wanted to send a clear message to the farmer, the beating could be due to unresolved economic issues but it is not excluded that it is linked to pasture trespassing . Now the investigators will have to put in order all the pieces of an episode that, at least in the initial phases, seemed rather mysterious.

Michele Oppo had already been the victim of an attempted murder 12 years ago: he had been stabbed by a shepherd servant.
