The Sassari municipal council has declared a state of natural disaster due to drought.

This decision follows the resolution of the Nurra Municipality, dating back to August 31st, in which the Palazzo Ducale and the Region were asked to comment on the serious situation affecting the Sassari villages.

"Current water reserves are insufficient to meet the needs of agricultural and livestock farms in the Nurra area," the document stated, "which fall outside the scope of the Nurra Land Reclamation Consortium. Water is needed not only for domestic use but also for watering livestock." Now Sassari has stepped in, ratifying a state of emergency, acknowledging the "persistent drought," which is particularly affecting the villages of Argentiera, Baratz, Biancareddu, Campanedda, Canaglia, La Corte, La Pedraia, Palmadula, and Tottubella.

This declaration is also necessary to, in compliance with Regional Law No. 14 of 2026, "allow private individuals, for damage to their primary residence or essential goods, and owners of economic and productive businesses, for damage to buildings and capital goods, to access non-repayable grants."
