A flurry of checks by the Oristano Highway Police to verify compliance with safety conditions by professional drivers.
However, during the latest investigations, numerous and serious infringements were detected, especially regarding compliance with driving and rest times and speed limits for drivers of heavy vehicles.
In detail, in 24 cases it was found that the driver of the vehicle had not carried out the mandatory registration of his driving activity via the tachograph. In 15 of these, for the most serious violations, the officers also carried out the withdrawal of the driving license.
As many as 32 violations involved exceeding driving times and failing to take daily and weekly rest periods. There were 88 cases in which the driver exceeded the speed limit. In all cases, the Labor Inspectorate was also informed for the consequent measures.
"All these violations, as can be imagined, constitute a potential dangerous situation for the safety of road traffic", explains a note from the Police Headquarters. "It is in fact clear that if a professional driver does not regularly take breaks after driving periods (or drives beyond the permitted limits) or, even, does not record his work activity at all via the tachograph, he may not possess that physical-mental efficiency, a necessary prerequisite for safely carrying out a delicate and dangerous activity such as driving a heavy vehicle".
