“I go to the doctor first, then I go to buy tortellini, so when I get back we prepare the pasta. Just before 1pm put the water on the fire ". These are the last words that Gavinuccio Canu addressed to his father before leaving home and never coming back.

The 56-year-old singer was found lifeless in the afternoon , at 3.30 pm, hidden among the brambles, in the green area of Piandanna, near the headquarters of the Revenue Agency, the place where he was last spotted. The discovery took place thanks to the mobilization by volunteers and police forces. The dog of a woman, a family friend who participated in the research, identified the body.

“For him music was everything, - says his 49-year-old cousin, Gerry Crobu - but if due to health problems he would not have been able to sing, this could represent a difficult situation to bear. That was his life, without he would not have lived ”.

The firefighters, agents of the Sassari Police Headquarters and forensics intervened in the place of the discovery. The area has been circumscribed. The body is now at the disposal of the judicial authority. The results of the autopsy, scheduled for the next few days, are awaited to understand the cause of death. The most likely hypothesis would be that the artist may have taken his own life, the very day of his disappearance. On Tuesday 8 February at 12.30 he had asked a friend for a ride who had accompanied him to Santa Maria from the village of Li Punti, where he lived. The last sighting at 16.30, near the Revenue Agencies. From that moment its traces have been lost until the dramatic epilogue.

In the place of the discovery, in piazzale Giovanni Falcone, also the father, Pietro Canu, 84, evidently upset by the death of his son, awaited in vain from the day of his disappearance: "It is as if my right arm were missing", said the elderly father on the television program “Who has seen it?”, on the occasion of which his friend Giovanni Salis had launched an appeal.
