Two complaints and dozens of snares for the illegal capture of deer and wild boars are the result of two anti-poaching operations carried out by the Forestry Corps of the territorial service of Cagliari in southern Sardinia.

In the two interventions, carried out by the staff of the Sinnai and Uta stations - respectively on the slopes of the Sette Fratelli massif and in the Gutturu Mannu regional park -, two people were caught red-handed , a 74-year-old pensioner from Quartu Sant'Elena and a 60-year-old craftsman from Capoterra. They were busy setting steel snares to capture deer and wild boar.

Both will answer for the crime of hunting with unauthorized means, punishable by imprisonment for up to one year. Furthermore, the craftsman from Capoterra will have to answer for illegal possession of ammunition, since during the house search he was found to be in possession of 50 pistol ammunition, a crime sanctioned with a prison sentence of up to 12 months.

During the patrols of the territory, the men of the Forestry Corps discovered a wild boar in the Sinnai pine forest that had been seriously injured with an underwater gun harpoon . The animal, despite immediate help, died due to the injury.

The Foresters have launched an appeal to the citizens of Sinnai to report to 1515 any useful information to identify the poacher, even in the form of a confidential source.
