The Health Councilor Carlo Doria, pressured by the opposition, returns to the case of the cancer patient from Fonni invited for treatment outside Sardinia in the Regional Council chamber.
The representative of the Solinas Council defends the Sardinian doctors and the health system of the island, underlines that the waiting times are in line and launches a serious accusation towards unknown persons, who would have added a line to the medical certificate with the invitation to patient to go outside the region : «A very serious fact – he states – because the message has passed that to be treated you have to leave Sardinia and it is not right to denigrate the doctors and operators who have remained here to work».
Doria then reiterated the numbers of Sardinian radiotherapy: «The ASL of Nuoro for the prostate has times of 4 to 6 months from the first visit, the ASL of Businco from 4 to 5, in Sassari within 4-6 months and the Mater Olbia guarantees the performance at 120 days. So we are absolutely in line with the times set by the guidelines ."
Replies from the opposition were not lacking in the long debate. «Today the councilor has not clarified the contours of this matter, in the face of this situation how can he think about the damage to the image of Sardinian healthcare if the problem is the lack of concrete solutions?», the attack by Gianfranco Satta (Progressives) .
Desirè Manca (M5s) : «In the face of all the reports of medical malpractice, you do nothing but deny and threaten lawsuits, but denying the evidence is a way of not addressing the problem. That of the patient from Fonni is not an isolated case, he must have the humility to sit down with all the councilors to try to find a solution ."
« Faced with this case I feel embarrassed – the words of the PD group leader Gianfranco Ganau – and it is not an isolated incident, there are other reports. Something is not working, it is not possible for doctors to advise patients to go outside the region to receive adequate treatment."
