Lumpy skin disease is spreading in the Sarrabus region. Two new outbreaks were confirmed yesterday, this time in the San Vito area .

The cases were found on two separate farms and add to the outbreaks in Muravera, Villaputzu, and Ballao discovered in recent weeks.

In total, out of 227 animals involved in the farms where the cases occurred, 25 were sick, 2 died, and 196 were subsequently culled according to the procedures required by law. The consequences for the new farms involved are inevitable: the animals will necessarily have to be culled.

The presence of the virus has also had repercussions on the feast of Sant'Efisio . Today, the saint parades aboard a pickup truck and not, as is traditional, on a chariot drawn by a yoke of oxen. Traccas are also absent. Due to dermatitis, for health reasons aimed at containing the spread, the movement of cattle within a fifty-kilometer radius of the affected farms has been prohibited.
