It was around 8pm yesterday. A group of boys found themselves in that abandoned house in Nuoro, a few steps from the oratory and the church of San Domenico Savio. It wasn't the first time. Perhaps they knew the plans and spaces of that ruin well but this time the perimeter walls and the attic gave way , probably during a game that broke the precarious balance of that farmhouse which remained standing despite decades of neglect. Patrick Zola, 14, and Ythan Romano, 15, are sucked into the rubble: they were inside a floor that no longer exists. Others apparently were outside, raising the alarm of a friend.

Together with firefighters with all possible means, 118 operators, ambulances from Nuoro and Oliena, police patrols and carabinieri, the prefect Giancarlo Dionisi arrived there, in that forgotten field in Via Dessanay, on the outskirts of Badu 'e Carros. , the police commissioner Alfonso Polverino, the mayor Andrea Soddu. And relatives and friends, many peers accompanied by parents in tears.

Now it will be the investigations, together with the work that the firefighters are carrying out, that will put the pieces of the puzzle in order. Yesterday, it was certainly pouring in Nuoro. And who knows if all that falling water had anything to do with the collapse. Meanwhile this morning everyone was in church for a moment of prayer: they both attended the oratory and above all Patrick was at home, there wasn't a day that he didn't spend in the oratory . Of Polish origins, the adopted son of a doctor and a farmer, he was a regular presence.

«There are no words, except a deep pain, when two young lives are suddenly broken – the words of the mayor of Nuoro Andrea Soddu – In this painful circumstance, I express my deepest condolences, on my behalf and on behalf of the entire city of Nuoro, to the families affected by the tragedy. That solidarity and support can alleviate, even if only in part, the suffering of an enormous loss, like that of two boys who had their whole lives ahead of them. Sincere thanks go to the rescue teams of the firefighters, 118 and the police for the promptness and efficiency demonstrated in their intervention".

«I express my deepest sympathy to the families for this terrible tragedy. In the face of this pain there are no words. Only silence and support for the families. As president I bring the tight embrace of all of Sardinia", said the president of the Region Alessandra Todde.
