The autopsy on Stefano Dal Corso's body revealed "elements compatible with both an atypical hanging and strangulation".

This was stated by the lawyer Armida Decima, the family's legal representative, during a press conference at the Chamber on the case of the 42-year-old Roman prisoner found dead on 12 October 2022 in his cell in the Massama prison, in Oristano.

"It would be the analysis of the lungs that would allow us to distinguish," the lawyer explained, "but the lungs, after so much time, were rotten and therefore it was not possible to detect it a year and three months after death."

He then added: "The prosecutor's consultants maintain that it could be compatible with hanging but they cannot exclude strangulation."

Attorney Decina then announced: «We will file an opposition to the request to close» the investigation into the death.
