Very serious road injuries and failure to help. These are the charges that the 56-year-old Sassari will have to answer, who today showed up at a carabinieri station declaring that he was driving the van of an express courier that hit two cyclists last night in the center of Olbia .

The accident took place in Viale Italia. A couple from Olbia - aged 42 and 35 - were on two electric bikes and were out for a ride when suddenly they were hit by a vehicle, which then drove away. The two, thrown from their saddles, suffered serious injuries and were rescued by 118 ambulances to be rushed to the John Paul II hospital.

The man, 42, was then taken by helicopter to Sassari. He was the most serious and is hospitalized in intensive care at the end of his life at the Santissima Annunziata.

The Carabinieri of the Olbia Radiomobile immediately started investigations and carried out the surveys to collect the traces in order to identify the investor vehicle and the driver.

This morning, also thanks to the analysis of a series of recordings of the video surveillance systems scattered in the area, they closed the circle around a Citroen van, belonging to a shipping company, which is now under seizure.

Perhaps knowing that he had been discovered, the driver spontaneously showed up in a barracks in the province to turn himself in.
