A collaboration agreement on the prevention of cybercrimes was signed today in Cagliari between the Sardinia Region and the Department of Public Security of the Ministry of the Interior.

The agreement, signed by Andreina Farris, councilor for General Affairs, and Ivano Gabrielli, director of the Postal and Communications Police Service, provides for an exchange of services provided by the two institutions, Region and Ministry, aimed at countering cyber attacks.

A collaboration which, in fact, will be achieved through interconnection to the Region's Telematic Network, with an ultra-broadband connection through the Kentos project, of the postal police centers present on the island. On the other hand, this same inclusion of the postal centers will constitute a concrete strengthening of the defenses against cyber threats towards the information systems and critical infrastructures managed by the Region and will, at the same time, also guarantee the necessary levels of institutional cooperation on the matter defense of the national security perimeter.

Furthermore, the agreement provides for the implementation of joint training initiatives «for the promotion and dissemination throughout the regional system of an adequate level of awareness of the risks and dangers connected to the network».

«The Protocol signed today marks a further fundamental step in the commitment of the State Police to the protection of citizens and institutions, with particular reference to the protection of critical computerized infrastructures that provide essential services for the country, a specific mission of the Postal Police», he said Gabrielli, «and structures an operational synergy in response to security needs which, with the digitalisation of almost all services, are now essential for the most complete protection of citizens' rights».

«In recent years - underlined Councilor Farris - the Sardinia Region has found itself facing unprecedented challenges in the field of cyber-security, in a context marked by growing insecurity at an international and national level. Accelerated digitalization has led to an exponential increase in cyber threats, highlighting the need to improve the security and response standards of regional systems. In this complex scenario, the Region has stood out for its strategic vision and for the choices adopted from an organizational, infrastructural, management and training perspective. The agreement with the Ministry of the Interior contributes to concretely strengthening cooperation with other institutions in the field of digital security and consolidating the digital transition process of the Region".
