The Aou of Sassari reopens the vaccine hub against Covid. In recent days, the first supply of vials of the new m-RNA vaccine (Comirnaty Omicron XBB 1.5) arrived and the center in Viale San Pietro began the first administrations.
Those who are primarily interested are those over sixty years of age, those who are fragile due to pathology (subject to booking on the regional portal https://cupweb.sardegnasalute.it/), healthcare personnel employed and interns at the University Hospital of Sassari. Other categories of the population may be vaccinated upon request and based on the availability of doses.
In this phase, meanwhile, Covid has become endemic in the population. While the new variants do not appear to be particularly dangerous. «Naturally - says Doctor Antonello Serra, coordinator of the Covid vaccine center together with Professor Paolo Castiglia -, we can neither lower our guard nor set aside protection measures, especially with regard to subjects over sixty and those who are fragile due to pathology. We must remember, then, that the protection measures that we learned to use during the emergency continue to be valid, especially respiratory protection."
The vaccination centre, open from Monday to Friday from 9am to 1pm, as regards Aou employees, has sent the department coordinators an availability register which will be used to book those who wish to undergo vaccination.
"Our hospital - continues Serra -, like the majority of Italian hospitals, has not lowered the level of protection, and has continued to maintain measures in place that guarantee safety for healthcare workers and patients".
Here then is the invitation to further raise the defensive barriers against the virus through vaccination. «The European and Italian health authorities - concludes Serra - have recently approved this new vaccine formulation which is also effective compared to the most widespread variants today. Furthermore, the new anti-Covid19 vaccination campaign that is starting in recent days can be coupled with the anti-flu vaccination campaign".
Finally, according to the ministerial circular of last September , to maximize protection for the 2023-2024 autumn/winter season, vaccination is recommended at least 6 months after the last dose of anti-Covid-19 vaccine received or from the last infection.
