Luigi Gulisano and Marisa Dessì, the 79- and 82-year-old couple found dead in their home on Via Ghibli in Cagliari on December 5, 2024 , were strangled and suffocated. This was established by the expert report ordered by investigating judge Ermengarda Ferrarese , which has now been added to the case file and provides the final impetus for the investigation against Claudio Gulisano, the couple's son, currently in prison on murder charges. The investigation is nearing its conclusion, and a request for indictment is expected for the sole suspect.

This morning, the judge lifted her reservation after lawyer Luigi Sanna, representing Gulisano , raised the question of the inadmissibility of the expert report on September 11th. In closing the evidentiary case, the Ferrarese preliminary hearing judge rejected the defense attorney's objection, which argued that the experts had used evidence in their analyses that was not included in the investigation.

The judge instead cited the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which provides that consultants may gather information outside of the case file, and that such information may only be used in the expert report and not in the rest of the proceedings. After admitting the expert report, the judge closed the evidentiary hearing.

We now await the conclusion of the preliminary investigation by the public prosecutor, who will send a notice to the suspect, after which there will be a request for indictment.

According to the Cagliari Prosecutor's Office , Claudio Gulisano murdered his parents to inherit some properties the couple owned in the city. With the proceeds, he resolved his financial difficulties, which had arisen from the failure of a supermarket his father had given him.
