Seventy-nine baby turtles have reached the sea of Costa Rei, in the stretch of beach in front of Camping Capo Ferrato. This concluded the twin hatching of last July, when two Caretta caretta were spotted intent on laying eggs. Out of a total of 167 eggs, as explained by the experts of the Marine Protected Area of Villasimius who monitored the nests, 79 hatched "while the other eggs unfortunately failed to develop".

The hatching occurred between September 14 and 15. In the following days, an attempt was made to understand if there were other eggs ready to hatch. The nests, in addition to the Marine Area, were monitored by dozens of volunteers.

As Fabio Piras, Councilor for the Environment of the Municipality of Muravera, points out, «Costa Rei once again confirms itself as a paradise for the Caretta Caretta. This is yet another demonstration that our beaches have an incredible naturalistic value».
