Various irregularities in the sector of the transport of live animals and food products have been found in recent weeks by the State Police.

In particular, the investigations carried out by the Sassari highway concerned two articulated lorries.

The first was stopped at the port of Olbia. It arrived from northern Italy with over 150 large pigs destined for slaughterhouses in Sardinia. The agents of the Olbia traffic police detachment, after verifying the first irregularities, requested the intervention of the veterinary service of the local ASL as the vehicle was found to lack the necessary technical certifications, as well as some essential requisites to guarantee animal welfare. The high fines amount to more than 6 thousand euros.

The second articulated lorry was intercepted along the Sassari-Olbia state road, it was transporting perishable food in a controlled temperature regime. But from the cross-analysis of the documentation supplied with the databases, an abusive transport resulted, i.e. without the required licenses, with expected administrative disputes for over 4,000 euros to be paid by the transport company and over 3,000 to be paid by the client for having entrusted the goods to an unsuitable person.

The heavy vehicle was detained and the goods, more than 15 tons of dairy products, meat and other refrigerated products destined for large-scale distribution, were subjected to temporary seizure pending being entrusted to an authorized company for the completion of the transport.
