The waterways of the Cagliari area are being made safe in view of the rainy season: ordinary maintenance interventions are being carried out on the main rivers in the area, planned by the hydrogeological service of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari for the mitigation of hydraulic risk. The total investment is over one million euros.
"We are intervening on various critical issues throughout the metropolitan area, but also planning interventions so that the greatest number of waterways are made safe and the risks are limited as much as possible", explains the mayor of the intermediate body, Paolo Truzzu, who adds: «It is a job that we cannot do alone, but coordination and planning of interventions is necessary, starting from the regional level up to the municipal level».
According to Truzzu «the topic of hydrogeological risk prevention requires not only greater financial resources, but above all professional figures within the administrations with high skills in the hydraulic and geological field, which are currently difficult to find in local authorities».
The interventions involve first of all the mowing of the reeds, the main obstacle to the flow of water: they have already been completed in the Rio Gavoi in the municipalities of Sinnai and Maracalagonis in the Torre delle Stelle locality (amount allocated approximately 75 thousand euros), and in the Rio Mannu in the territory of Villa San Pietro and Pula (124 thousand euros). Interventions are still underway in the Rio San Gimiliano in the municipalities of Sestu and San Sperate (97 thousand euros), in the Rio Santa Lucia in Capoterra (127 thousand euros), in the Rio Corongiu in Sinnai and Maracalagonis (125 thousand euros), and in the Rio Fangario in the territories of Cagliari and Elmas (50 thousand euros). All the works, carried out with funds from the regional public works department for over 700 thousand euros, will be completed by the end of November.
Further interventions, financed with the Metropolitan City's own funds for approximately 300 thousand euros and carried out by Proservice Spa, are underway in the Rio Sestu in the Elmas area, which will be followed by others in the Sa Murta and Giaccu Meloni rivers, also in Elmas. An intervention is also planned in the Municipality of Sinnai near the border with Maracalagonis, where there is a large quantity of waste, not only urban but also bulky, demolition rubble, asbestos, residues from construction and mechanical work.
