Christmas lunch at home for almost 9 out of 10 Italian families (88%) with an average of 8 guests. Only 9 percent chose a restaurant or a farmhouse, the rest decide at the last minute.
As for products, the focus is on Made in Italy. And with the price increases that are felt, the spending budget drops slightly, amounting to 108 euros on average (-6%) .
This is the picture that emerges from the Coldiretti/Ixé survey according to which the relative majority of families (30%) expect to spend between 50 and 100 euros, while 23% will go up to 150 euros, 11% to 200 euros and 4% will reach 300 euros (with another 4% that will exceed this figure). Only 10%, according to Coldiretti, will keep costs under 30 euros, 13% between 30 and 50 euros, while 5% prefer not to provide an answer.
There are many territorial differences, if in the South the average family spends 121 euros, in the North West it stops at 96 .
Tradition wins once again in the menu choices: from fresh pasta in broth to roasts, while on the dessert front there is a tendency to do it yourself in almost half of the homes (47%). In the glasses, sparkling wine is the star, which will not be missing from 83% of the tables. Finally, in the holiday food preferences 82% choose products of national origin, of which 30% go for mainly local ones , while the remaining 18% decide more based on price.
Sardinians, on the other hand, according to a survey by Confartigianato, spend half a billion on food and drinks during the entire holiday period, 37 million more than in 2023. Inflation is therefore increasing spending, but traditions are not being given up. Price increases on food reach up to 32%.
"They are hitting families who risk having to make sacrifices even on Christmas traditions", reports Simone Girau, president of Adiconsum Cagliari. Restaurant prices, then, have increased by 4.4%. The crisis bites but also this year the trend for dinner on the 24th and lunch on the 25th is in the name of Christmas dishes, between great classics and re-proposals.
The king of the table is lamb , prepared in the most varied ways.
