«Children of a lesser healthcare system?».

So say the slogan banners of the autonomous NurSind nurses' union . Nuoro, on the occasion of the national strike, becomes a city symbol of the protest against the lack of support for healthcare professions and the reduction of efficiency in the Sardinian healthcare system.

Dozens of professionals gathered in front of the San Francesco hospital : «We made a choice of great symbolic value with the demonstration in Nuoro, one of the peripheral areas of Sardinia that suffer the most - said Fabrizio Anedda, regional coordinator of NurSind - We want to send a strong signal against the inconveniences in hospitals : from the penalization suffered by staff close to retirement, to the very low attractiveness of the nursing profession due to the low income and exhausting workloads. There is overcrowding in central hospitals , little possibility of transfers and work careers which put at risk the realization of the Pnrr investments and the stability of our national health system. The public service is being dismantled in favor of increasingly private healthcare", concluded Anedda.

«The profession is no longer attractive, fewer people are now taking part in the tests to access the nursing degree compared to the places available - says Andrea Torotto, nurse at the burns center in Sassari - and this says a lot about salaries, workload and responsibilities . The demand for health is always growing but the workforce remains the same and the working hours are exhausting." For Angela Dessì of the NurSind of Oristano, « the situation is becoming dramatic . The shortage of staff produced by the budget maneuver which does not provide resources to adapt the contract and penalizes pensions and career progression, leads directly to the dismantling of the public health profession."
