Childhood cancer, the wine of Sardinian sommeliers at the service of solidarity
The initiative that offers free assistance and hospitality to small patients of Microcitemico and their families
An initiative that was born with the aim of supporting charitable associations that operate in various social fields , and which translates, in Sardinia , into solidarity bottles of wine whose proceeds from the sale will go to the aid of families forced daily to deal with pathologies childhood oncology .
For the second consecutive year, the Italian Sommelier Association of Sardinia (AIS Sardinia) adheres to the Alba Vitae project, an initiative born twelve years ago on the initiative of AIS Veneto. Each participating regional association has selected a wine that has been specially packaged in an exclusive magnum version. With the purchase of these bottles it will be possible to support, in an effective and tangible way, one of the associations dedicated to charitable activities, identified on a territorial basis.
The wine proposed this year by AIS Sardegna is the Carignano del Sulcis "Rocca Rubia" Riserva 2019 produced by Cantina Santadi . The proceeds will go to the benefit of the ASTAFOS Onlus Association (Sardinian Association for the Protection of Oncohematological Children's Assistance), born in 1992 thanks to the initiative of a group of volunteers, pediatricians, nurses of the Oncohematology Department of the Microcitemic Hospital of Cagliari, with the aim to provide the necessary assistance and housing to families affected by childhood cancer.
Through the Pediatric Reception House, built in Cagliari and raised thanks to the contribution of donations, the ASTAFOS Onlus Association is in fact able to guarantee solidarity, assistance and free hospitality to young patients and their families . Starting from the assumption that the relationship between the sick child and the parent is an essential aid to medical care, the Pediatric Reception Center accommodates patients and parents in adequately equipped rooms, including a play area . The reception is open not only to Sardinian children but also to those coming from other Italian regions and, in some cases, from the whole Mediterranean basin, who need assistance in the Specialist Departments of the Hospital for the treatment of Microthalassaemias and other pathologies oncological.
