A few more hours of heat, then from tomorrow the scenario will begin to change.

In the next 24 hours, 18 Italian cities are grappling with the Charon anticyclone and the red dot for the perceived high temperatures that often exceed 40 degrees.

Alert in Cagliari, Ancona, Bari, Campobasso, Catania, Civitavecchia, Florence, Frosinone, Latina, Messina, Naples, Palermo, Perugia, Pescara, Reggio Calabria, Rieti, Rome and Viterbo. The minimums touch 30 degrees even at night.

And yesterday peaks of 46°C were recorded in Sardinia.

«Temperatures have exceeded the worst projection so far proposed by the most pessimistic. The worst scenario of global warming - explains Andrea Garbinato of iLMeteo.it - is occurring in advance and we must take measures: a simple method would be to reduce the cemented areas and return to woods and green areas ».

In fact, a green area in the middle of the city often has temperatures even 3-5°C lower than the remaining cemented city center

Charon, the sub-Saharan anticyclone, has inflated towards the north, encompassing all of Italy: in the next few hours it will deflate a bit and retreat towards the south. Very hot temperatures are still expected from Tuscany downwards, while in the Po Valley and the Alps thermometers will slowly begin to drop a few degrees.

In short, by the weekend in the Centre-North it will drop towards 35°C, while in the South the temperatures will remain very high: even on Monday 24 July in Sicily and Sardinia again peaks of 47°C are not excluded.

FIRE RISK – Furthermore, on the fire front, a situation of "extreme danger" was reported for today in Sardinia, Sicily and Basilicata.

This was communicated by the European information system on forest fires (EFFIS) of the EU Copernicus programme.
