The Municipality of Castelsardo pays homage to the illustrious fellow citizen Michele Giua, chemist, academic, Senator of the Italian Republic and father of the Constituent Assembly, on the 58th anniversary of his death which occurs today, 25 March.

The commemorative plaque was placed in his birthplace in the historic centre, on the occasion of the study day promoted by the Lions Club in concert with the municipal administration in 2013. Michele Giua's fight against fascism is also remembered with the introduction of clandestine material, the dissemination of articles, the collection of funds and the exchange of instructions. His knowledge in the chemical field was very important in this period. In 1932, in fact, he developed different types of invisible ink for secret correspondence, based on different chemical solutions. In 1933, when the regime made it obligatory to swear loyalty to the regime, Giua, together with other colleagues, preferred to renounce the professorship. In recent years he managed to survive thanks to the income from his publications and his private laboratory.

In 1945 he was appointed to the Council and in 1946 to the Constituent Assembly in the constituency of Turin-Novara and Vercelli, with interventions strongly influenced by his reformist training belonging to the Marxist tradition.
