Months ago the volunteers of the Senso Comune association had cleaned it from top to bottom, redeeming it from decay.

Now the square between Cannas di Sopra and via Sirri has a new life: in a ceremony which was also attended by the mayor Paola Massidda, the place dedicated to children was inaugurated in memory of Iqbal Masih, the Pakistani teenager who was brutally murdered in 1995 after having strenuously denounced the exploitation of child labor in his country.

Having become a world symbol of the fight against this aberration, today the association and the Municipality wanted to witness his sacrifice by naming him a square with an adjoining small playground that over time, due to thugs and neglect, had become impractical.

"This place - underlined the mayor Massidda, addressing the kids who discovered the plaque - is like your playroom: take care of it and be an example".

A poster was also unveiled with reflections on the hard work tasks that the children of miners had in Carbonia when he was born.
