Inaugurated on 10 November and remained open for visits for a few days, the National Park reopens from today 8 December, at the Cea di Caprera, the exhibition space that contains the skeleton of the sperm whale, 8 meters long, weighing 201 kg (only the head weighs 69), which was found beached in 2019 in Cala Romantica (Arzachena).

" We managed to restore dignity to a marine being who probably died from ingesting 22 kg of plastic with a 2-metre fetus in her lap, " said the park director, Giulio Plastina. It was recovered thanks to an agreement with the Park - University of Padua - Department of Comparative Biomedicine and Nutrition.

It is the only sperm whale skeleton present in Sardinia, and in all of Italy there are only a dozen. It was not possible to recover the puppy, which was never born as it was not yet sufficiently formed as a skeleton.

Sperm whales live at no less than 7/800 meters and in those depths they feed mainly on squid and similar. This dramatically lets us assume how much plastic can be deposited in the deep sea.
