More power and resources for ENAS to address the water emergency . The law, approved at the latest Regional Council meeting, will allow for a breakthrough in drought management, particularly in northern Sardinia . The measure was presented this morning in Sassari at the Civil Engineering Department building by Regional Councilor for Public Works, Antonio Piu.
"We now have the opportunity," he explains, "to hire more people at Enas, where 232 people work out of a requirement of 340. In the Sassari area, for 150 km of pipelines, we only have three workers, and if an emergency like two weeks ago occurred, the only worker available on weekends would be in Cagliari." Eight million euros will be allocated to address the emergency and allow Enas, which controls the entire multi-sector sector, Piu says, "to deliver water more quickly, more safely, and above all, without leaks."
THE DIFFICULTIES – The difficulties in the Northwest are well-known and dramatic, with the water supply having been reduced from 17.5 million cubic meters to 6.5 million. Furthermore, other problems are being encountered which, combined with the drought, are burdening the regional authority's expenditure.
"Remember that we spend 800,000 euros a month on water pumping from the Tirso and Flumendosa rivers, and that interconnecting them with other basins requires additional costs to get from one point to another."
This is a complex situation to which the Region and the Public Works sector are responding by implementing €60 million in projects funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), "ahead of schedule," and by allocating additional funds for ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of pipelines.
