Giuseppe Garibaldi's windmill reopens in Caprera after a major restoration work .

The inauguration is scheduled for Tuesday 25 July at 5 pm, at the Compendium Garibaldino di Caprera, in the presence of the director of the Regional Directorate of Museums of Sardinia, Francesco Muscolino and the person in charge of the restoration work, Luciano Cannas, who will tell the story and phases of the important maintenance project.
Built between 1861 and 1868, this mill replaced the existing one introduced by the General himself around 1856, which was immediately abandoned because it was exposed to strong mistral currents . And it was precisely the particular exposure of the island to the prevailing winds that inspired the construction of a new mill, in a more sheltered area, which played a fundamental role in the nascent Caprera farm for the production of essential products such as flour, wine and oil.

An ambitious and modern work, particularly dear to the hero of two worlds, who together with a skilled engineer, the Garibaldian Edoardo Barberini, after a careful study of the winds, elaborated the design and the sophisticated mechanism which, even today, after careful maintenance, is intact and perfectly functional.
