No to the immense 20-hectare expanse of silicon in the Capoterra countryside: the Ministry of the Environment archives the request presented by the Edison Rinnovabili company and closes the doors to the 13.8 MW photovoltaic park project that was supposed to be built in the Sant'Angelo area.
The ministry's decision came after the same company intending to cover the land near the Pip area of Capoterra with photovoltaic panels had demonstrated its intention not to go ahead because, in the face of a regulatory context destined to change, the investment would have been risky. In fact, after the request to archive the Environmental Impact Assessment presented by Edison, the Ministry of the Environment had no choice but to acknowledge the company's wishes and write the final word on the procedure initiated in January 2023. The Region, the Municipality, but above all the citizens, who through the Committee for the protection of the territory of Capoterra had made their voices heard: the project had received a long series of negative opinions.
The Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape is also against the photovoltaic park, given its proximity to the historic Casa Vanini, the last witness to the agricultural importance of the Sant'Angelo area. The note from the Ministry of the Environment makes the municipal administration breathe a sigh of relief.
"We are happy that this project has been aired - says the mayor, Beniamino Garau -, a photovoltaic park so large a stone's throw from the Meccano Center would have been an obstacle to the growth of the Sant'Angelo industrial area, no one would have ever invested there with that ocean of panels on the ground. In the conference of services the entities involved had shown themselves skeptical, we are convinced that the future of Capoterra cannot pass through mega projects of pure speculation, which bring nothing to the territory".
