The Cammino di Bonaria arrives in Lazio: a historic agreement with the Via Francigena. Institutional twinning agreement signed. Today in Viterbo, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Cammino di Bonaria and the Viterbo section of the Via Francigena. The Cammino di Bonaria thus becomes the Sardinian continuation of the Via Francigena , at least ideally, for those who wish to continue their journey by crossing the sea.

The agreement aims to enhance, through a twinning agreement, the Viterbo section of the Via Francigena and the Cammino di Bonaria. The latter, a major pilgrimage route from Olbia to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Bonaria in Cagliari, will thus be linked to the historic pilgrim route to Rome and beyond. The Via Francigena represents one of the ancient cultural communication routes between Europe and the Mediterranean , and its Viterbo section is distinguished by its rich history, art, and landscape, as well as its deep European roots.

The Bonaria Trail, meanwhile, is a path with a strong sense of identity and devotion, a route of faith, culture, and tourism that connects communities and territories rich in Mediterranean traditions. It winds through a diverse, rugged, and at times challenging landscape, through the Sardinian hinterland, past historic villages and unique cultural settings with a strong spiritual and social dimension. The twinning of the Viterbo section of the Via Francigena and the Bonaria Trail is a strategic project aimed at creating a broad opportunity for cultural, economic, and social growth for both territories.

The presentation took place in the Sala Regia of Palazzo dei Priori. The event was attended by Viterbo Mayor Chiara Frontini, City Councilor Alessandra Croci, Sardinia Regional Councilor Sebastian Cocco, Sardinia Regional Councilor Paola Casula , European Parliament Vice President Antonella Sberna, and Lazio Regional Councilor Daniele Sabatini.
