"The murals on Via Roma are at risk of losing their strength and value, day by day. The works, which depict scenes from the daily lives of the people of Capoterra from about a century ago, are a testament to the rural tradition and the history of the town." Silvano Corda , a minority councilor, points to the state of the artworks that adorn the city streets.

"The murals of the historic shops were created precisely on the sites where those businesses once stood, to recall daily life in Capoterra before the 1950s," Corda explains. "A few years ago, they were even visited by numerous elementary school classes as part of a regional project. Today, however, time and the elements are leaving their mark."

"Moisture, seepage, and mineral salts are causing the plaster to peel off and the painted surfaces to deteriorate," he continues. "The state of the surrounding area is also worrying: some safety posts have been torn down, barriers are not maintained, and adjacent spaces are often misused, to the point of becoming veritable open-air latrines."

To save the murals, Corda calls for immediate action from the Garau administration: "Let's save these works before it's too late. We need targeted and conservative restoration, using compatible materials and interventions that respect the originals. Protection should include all of Capoterra's murals, including those in Piazza Santa Croce, which depict important figures and moments in the community's economic and cultural growth."
