"It seems they know the door-to-door schedule." A resident of Via De Gasperi in Sassari disheartenedly commented on the food scraps left by wild boars after digging them out of the bins.

On the pavement lies the wet mess where the animals have been feeding, forcing the sanitation worker to sweep up the remains with a broom. "It's like this every day," he says.

The mammals permanently occupy the area between Via Luna e Sole, Via Barzini, Via Di Vittorio, and other streets, feeding on whatever they find. And while the animals have never posed a threat to humans, the disruption to the neighborhood, where waste collection is done door-to-door, is evident.

The solution, proposed on several occasions, would be to hang the containers on the railings with a hook, preventing them from being reached by wild boars. However, this option isn't always feasible, as the pig families, driven from the Monte Bianchinu countryside, descend into the valley in search of food. "There are dozens of them," witnesses say.

On the other hand, these are now widespread in every other neighborhood of Sassari, in particular in Monte Rosello and Rizzeddu, and with a presence that is perhaps destined to increase.
