Landings are increasing in southern Sardinia: 166 migrants have arrived in two days.

166 migrants arrived on the coast of southern Sardinia in the last two days, between the afternoon of August 31st and the night before. Yesterday alone, 119 people disembarked.

The numbers come from sources at the Police Headquarters after the inspection carried out yesterday by representatives of the Five Star Movement and the Anip Italia Sicura trade union at the extraordinary reception centre and hotspot in Monastir , on the outskirts of Cagliari.

There are approximately 700 migrants hosted here between CAS (Reception Centres) and hotspots. That's nearly 100 fewer than the last survey conducted by the same union 10 days ago, but still more than the nominal capacity of 300. These numbers prompted Mayor Paola Ugas to raise her voice at the end of August, arguing that overcrowding "cannot be the norm."

"There were approximately 500 people present at the CAS. Furthermore, in the previous mornings, 100 migrants had already been transferred to Bologna," explained National Secretary General Flavio Tuzi , who visited the facility immediately after yesterday's inspection by members of the Five Star Movement (M5S), who announced they would be filing a question in the Senate . "Following the arrivals recorded that same day, the Hotspot had approximately 150 people present, with approximately 50 arriving in the morning and approximately 100 more throughout the day. Numbers of this magnitude require adequate organization of spaces, services, and flows, as well as a sufficient number of police officers for the tasks to be carried out."

During the visit, various structural and organizational critical issues emerged , such as "the promiscuity between the people present in the CAS and the newly arrived migrants destined for identification and photo-identification procedures at the Hotspot," the union further explains. "Another critical issue concerns the organization of the spaces designated for photo-identification activities."

A particularly important point concerns security at the entrances. Anip-Italia sicura (Italia Safe) is calling for the reinstatement of 24-hour security at the entrances to ensure continuous supervision and access control. "At the same time, an adequate number of State Police officers must be ensured, proportionate to the numbers present, the flows, and the activities carried out daily within the center."
