Little rain , non-existent grass in the pastures and increasingly difficult to manage work in the fields. This is the situation of Sardinian agricultural companies , on their knees due to the drought that is tearing the island apart, denounced by the president of the Agricultural Studies Center, Tore Piana , who asks the Region to declare a state of natural disaster . Among the difficulties also those of "those who sowed the grass, who find themselves having spent unnecessarily on seeds and fertilizers and having to spend on feed to feed their livestock".

«The profit is practically zero - underlines Piana - in fact the companies are at a net loss , especially those that raise livestock such as beef cattle, goats and sheep. There are some territories where the autumn grass has never appeared , in some territories I personally carried out an inspection to verify the situation and the situation appears more dramatic than how the farmers described it. Today, in some companies, even the artesian wells that supply water for the livestock to drink are disappearing and many companies are forced to rent tankers and purchase the water needed for the livestock." A situation that becomes more and more difficult day after day, with companies "forced to sell their milk production livestock because they can no longer sustain the expenses, even though the price of milk for sheep farmers is satisfactory".

«We will urgently ask the regional councilor for Agriculture to start the regulatory process for the recognition of the state of natural disaster for the Sardinian territories affected by drought, as is happening in other regions such as Sicily in recent days. We as the agricultural association Centro Studi Agricoli are organizing several territorial meetings, the first in Irgoli and immediately after in Ogliastra and other municipalities to discuss the problem and listen directly to the situation from breeders and farmers", concludes Piana.
