It had been announced, now it's official: the limited number of places on Cala Luna, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean, will be implemented.

Dorgali and Baunei, the two municipalities on the eastern coast of Sardinia that share that 800 meter stretch of sand, have decided to introduce the restriction starting this summer. The idea had already been toyed with last year, however any decision was postponed until 2024. Now there is the green light to trigger the limited number from next June.

The two municipal administrations agreed on the need to manage arrivals on the beach, crowded in the summer months by thousands of Italian and foreign tourists. T he first technical table to understand how to proceed with the shared management of the bans has already met with the tourist operators of the Gulf of Orosei, Port Authority, Forestry, Police Headquarters and Prefecture of Nuoro, Confcommercio. Thus we began to talk about ecological tickets, supervision and rotation of landings for arrivals by sea. The objective is twofold: to preserve the environment and the safety of swimmers and to protect maritime transport companies that deal with tourists.

«The limited number is the only fixed point that finds us all united», explains the mayor of Dorgali Angela Testone, «the technical table open to tourist operators discussed a possible inter-municipal regulation which will have to pass through the two municipal councils of Dorgali and Baunei. Management must also be unitary", he specifies, "and must involve all maritime transporters so that a quota number can be established for vessels in the entire Gulf of Orosei".

Stefano Monni, a colleague from Baunei, the Ogliastra town that led the way on limited numbers, also agrees. In fact, for years the most beautiful coves on the coast have had limited entrances: a maximum of 700 people can access at the same time in Cala Mariolu, 300 in Cala Biriala and Cala dei Gabbiani, 250 in Cala Goloritzé. «This year the season must start with a limited number in Cala Luna too», confirms mayor Monni, «but we must agree on the type of quota: Cala Luna can be reached on foot from four different itineraries and by sea from all the ports of the Gulf of Orosei, so controls are needed upstream and downstream."

As for the maximum number of presences, for the mayor of Baunei one thousand people is an acceptable ceiling to be foreseen, however, within a regulation which according to Monni will have to be drawn up by the two municipalities before submitting it to the tourist operators.
