Siamaggiore, 600 euro check for those who adopt a dog

The aim is to reduce the number of animals present in the kennel, with the dual result of improving their well-being away from the bars and limiting the costs of stray animals for the community.

The Municipality of Siamaggiore is promoting an adoption campaign: for those who decide to take a dog that is in the Silì kennel, and therefore take care of it, there are 600 euros available. The adoption can be arranged in favor of both private citizens and animal rights associations.

Nothing will be left to chance. The specialized staff of the shelter where there are currently six dogs owned by the Municipality, will be available to help and advise the aspiring adopter in choosing the dog best suited to his or her abilities and needs. Once the visit to the shelter has been carried out and the dog to be adopted has been identified, the request can be presented to the protocol office of the Municipality of Siamaggiore. The dog can be entrusted in two ways. Either temporarily, in the case in which sixty days have not yet passed since the capture. In this case, the foster parent must in fact undertake to return the animal to the owners who request it within the terms. Or permanently, that is, after at least sixty days have passed since the capture.

To request the adoption of a dog, you must be of legal age, have no criminal convictions for animal cruelty, but also provide a guarantee of adequate treatment, with a commitment to maintaining the animal in good condition at your home, in an environment suitable for hosting it, in relation to its size, the needs of the breed, ensuring the required vaccinations and veterinary care. The new owner is also obliged to have the dog inspected, even without warning, by the officials of the Municipality or the Veterinary Service of the Local Health Authority, in order to ascertain the correct maintenance of the animal. The resources that the Municipality finances must be spent on the care of the animal. During the first three years from the date of adoption, you cannot give the dog to third parties without prior authorization from the Municipality of Siamaggiore.

"The Municipality spends about 1200 euros per year for each dog", explains Mayor Davide Dessì, "I hope this initiative has a good effect".
