A cry that touches our consciences. After the devastating fires that have struck Villacidro, Villasimius, Serramanna, and now Orosei, a heartfelt message arrives from the Archbishop of Cagliari, Monsignor Giuseppe Baturi.

His words resonate as an urgent call for responsibility, solidarity, and the defense of the Sardinian land, once again wounded by flames.

"Once again, fires, once again, devastation," the Archbishop began, expressing deep concern over the severity of the events. "Our land, already scarred by numerous environmental disasters, now finds itself facing a new wound."

The Church of Cagliari expresses its moral turmoil over what is happening: not only the material damage, but also the invisible pain affecting communities. Baturi extended his thoughts to the families who have suffered losses and his sincere thanks to the firefighters, volunteers, and law enforcement officers "who, with courage and a spirit of service, have dedicated themselves to addressing the emergency."

In his message, the Archbishop goes beyond the news and calls on everyone to assume collective responsibility. "Fires continue to be a recurring phenomenon, with devastating effects on the environment and people. The causes are multiple: malicious intent, negligence, speculation, but also the consequences of climate change."

In a key passage, the Archbishop emphasized the need to protect creation: "Our responsibility as citizens and Christians is to care for the Earth that God has given us, preventing tragedies like these."

Baturi doesn't limit himself to denunciation. His is also a message of hope: "Sardinia, though wounded, has the strength to recover. But only if we work together, in solidarity, to rebuild and prevent these disasters from happening again."

An exhortation to the entire island to renew its commitment to environmental protection, through responsible choices and more effective policies . And finally, a prayer: for those who lost, for those fighting on the ground, and for a future where ecological awareness is real and shared.

"Let us not allow our land to be destroyed," the Archbishop concluded. "Let us work together to protect what has been given to us."
