They threatened a twenty-two-year-old man with a knife, intending to steal his cell phone, and then fled. But the escape of the two men responsible for the robbery committed this morning at dawn on Viale La Playa, Cagliari, didn't last long: Carabinieri officers from the Radiomobile unit, with the support of their colleagues from the Assemini and Pirri stations, arrested a twenty-one-year-old Algerian man and detained his accomplice, a 19-year-old fellow Algerian.
The Carabinieri intervention began after a request for support came from the train station security staff.
The two young men, aboard a bus, allegedly stole the cell phone of a 22-year-old Tunisian man living in the Cagliari area at knifepoint, before fleeing. The victim, after catching up with them, was struck in the ankle by a glass bottle, sustaining injuries.
The twenty-one-year-old was immediately stopped by the military , while the nineteen-year-old was later located at Calata Sant'Agostino, where he was in the company of another young Algerian: he attempted to evade identification by pushing the officers. To no avail: he was stopped.
The two alleged perpetrators of the robbery were transferred to Uta prison, pending a validation hearing.
