Police, Carabinieri, municipal police and Guardia di Finanza in action in Cagliari to clear out the camp that had been created outside the building where the migrants lived in via Riva di Ponente, which was destroyed by a fire a few weeks ago .

The intervention, coordinated by Quaestor Paolo Rossi, was requested by the Municipality of Cagliari and agreed upon in the Committee at the Prefecture and was carried out both for safety reasons and because the area is essential for the celebrations of the feast of Sant'Efisio .

For migrants - about ten - who had camped in the area, accommodation was found in Elmas. The municipal police had the carcasses of cars and vehicles they used as sleeping accommodation removed and operations to clean up the area continued this morning.

The fire in the building in via Riva di Ponente where 40 migrants lived broke out on the morning of 9 March last.

The foreigners had been identified: those without a residence permit were expelled, while accommodations had been identified for the other asylum seekers, but some had not accepted and remained in the area.
