A 21-year-old drowns after diving into the sea and is struck down by a sudden illness in Cala Gonone.

A 21-year-old man died this afternoon after being taken ill in the waters of Cala Gonone , in front of Palmasera beach, on the eastern coast of Sardinia.

The young man, a foreign national, worked as a seasonal worker at a local resort. After lunch, he went swimming and felt ill while swimming.

He was brought back to shore by those on the beach and emergency services were called. Emergency workers, who also responded with the Areus helicopter, were unable to save his life. The Carabinieri also arrived on the scene to verify the situation.
