Eighteen cats , even very small ones, abandoned in an uncultivated field between Via dell'Edera and Via Torricelli , a few meters from the very busy four-lane road. A resident, Simone Pilleri , found them and decided to keep them temporarily in his home. Now, however , he can no longer continue to keep them , also because he has other cats of his own. Some of the abandoned cats were adopted after their appeal , there are still 12 left.

« From one day to the next, a carrier for large animals appeared outside my house with a total of 18 cats, including puppies and adults, inside and around it – explains Pilleri –. Leaving them there would have meant an enormous risk of finding them crushed by cars. For this reason I brought them to me, but the situation is absolutely unsustainable . I am receiving help from friends, relatives, volunteers and associations, but I honestly thought that for a case like this there would also be a protocol from the Municipality and that everything would not be left in my hands. So many cats in such a small room (I can't let them out so they don't come into contact with my domestic cats) is for obvious reasons a situation of degradation and a risk for my health and that of the cats themselves."

Pilleri says he made a report of abandonment against unknown persons to the police on the same day the cats were found. "The police told me that the responsibility lies with the municipal police." He then contacted the municipality and the veterinary health authority by telephone: «The local police first told me that I should have left them on the street or put them back where I found them. When I told them that they were not strays but abandoned cats they advised me to contact the veterinary health authority. The latter told me to call back to speak, I think, with a manager but, despite having searched for her several times, I still haven't been able to find her."

Pilleri launches an appeal : «The help I really need now is for someone to take care of at least one of the cats and adopt it or try to get it adopted, it's urgent, the room where I host them is small. I can pay for a visit to the vet and for sterilization." Pilleri can be contacted via his Facebook profile.
