A significant step backwards, even if announced in brief. Effective Monday, October 6, Mario Marchetti will no longer be president of the Cagliari Opera House Foundation. His resignation, cited due to health issues, was accepted by Mayor Massimo Zedda, who is now responsible for identifying a successor or retaining the position himself.
Marchetti is stepping down after a term he himself described as complex. "It's been a difficult journey," he stated in a dry but eloquent tone, thus closing a chapter he lived with commitment and discretion.
Zedda himself acknowledged the work of the outgoing president, expressing his appreciation for it: "I have acknowledged and accepted, albeit with regret, the resignation from the office of president of the Teatro Lirico, on my behalf, submitted by Dr. Mario Marchetti, to whom I renew my full respect, along with my thanks for the work he has carried out with great competence and professionalism."
Leadership of the Foundation now rests with the mayor , who will have to decide whether to retain the presidency himself or delegate it to another person of his choosing. This decision will have not only administrative but also symbolic weight in an institution that is central to Cagliari's cultural life.
