New raised pedestrian crossings in Cagliari, near schools and in areas considered most at risk of accidents .
One million euros have been allocated to "improve traffic, reduce accidents and make the city more sustainable", explain Mayor Massimo Zedda and Mobility Councillor Yuri Marcialis .
Those already built: viale Colombo (the first adjacent to the Alberti High School and the second facing Piazza Dei Centomila), viale Diaz (two, facing the Bonaria steps and the Buccari Institute), via Stamira, viale Poetto (near the supermarket), via Tramontana (near Campo Rossi) . A crossing in viale Ciusa is currently being built.
The next interventions will instead affect the following streets: via Puglia (near the San Michele Cemetery), via Abruzzi, via Marongiu, via Mandrolisai and via delle Fosse Ardeatine .
"We are working, in collaboration with the Local Police, with the aim of reducing accidents and making our city safer and easier to navigate. At the same time, it is necessary to intervene on multiple fronts, for example by encouraging shared and sustainable mobility. The strengthening of local public transport is another strategic line of action, in collaboration with Arst, Ctm and Ferrovie", explains Zedda. In Cagliari, in fact, there are too many cars on the road: to the 130 thousand present out of 150 thousand inhabitants, we must add the approximately 170 thousand daily entries of vehicles from outside the city .
Councilor Marcialis: «The Service is preparing the documents for the tender procedure regarding the new road maintenance service, which will be able to resume at full capacity from August. In the meantime, the plan for urgent interventions continues, with priority given to the most damaged and trafficked areas. We have earmarked resources dedicated to combating heat islands, using innovative materials to lower asphalt temperatures. We are also evaluating roundabouts, transversal connections, clearer junctions».
