For some, it was a first, for others, a welcome return. Some couldn't wait to ride it to cut their commute in half, while others are taking a tour "because, yes, we've been waiting for it for years and I was curious." All eyes were on the reopening of the surface metro yesterday throughout Cagliari and its hinterland, and after nearly three years of anticipation, the response from travelers was enthusiastic.
The first time
With carriages packed during rush hour, the return journey has been a blessing for passengers thanks to the speed of the journey. Many university students are traveling from Cagliari, headed for Cittadella. "It's my first time," says Gabriele Pinna, a twenty-year-old student. "It's definitely a very useful service for the city." Some even buy a ticket just to relive the experience: "I'm thrilled, I'm taking a ride for fun," explains Marcella, a sixty-year-old from Cagliari. "I've missed the metro; I like traveling by public transportation. The important thing is that they run every ten minutes, as promised."
