A tense evening unfolded on Via Sonnino, where a rescue operation turned violent . A 49-year-old Tunisian man, a homeless man already known to law enforcement, was arrested by Carabinieri officers at the Villanova station after assaulting a 118 emergency worker and resisting officers.
According to the reconstruction, the 49-year-old, in a clearly altered state of mind and body – probably due to alcohol abuse – was being treated by a medical team when, suddenly, he punched one of the workers in the face.
The victim, taken to Brotzu Hospital, suffered injuries considered serious by the criminal code.
The arrival of the Carabinieri did not calm the situation: the man attempted to kick them, forcing the soldiers to restrain him and take him to the barracks.
After the usual formalities, he was held in holding cells pending the fast-track trial ordered by the judicial authorities.
