Luna Rossa doubles in Cagliari: after the base at the Ichnusa pier, the company has been awarded a lot in the eastern outpost of the Porto Canale and will build a shipyard dedicated to the construction and maintenance of racing boats. The new hub will feature industrial manufacturing processes, advanced design, research and development sectors, which also include test trials of boats for the relaunch of the America's Cup challenge, on an open surface of 27 thousand square meters, two docks, one on the internal side and one on the external side, respectively 203 and 210 meters long and related water surfaces of 6,450 square meters (internal side) and 7,490 (external).
Luna Rossa is one of five operators that have submitted an offer for the construction of production facilities in that area of the industrial port.
Gordon's Light Structures Srl, in conjunction with Cantieri di Olbia Srl, has obtained two lots within the complex: the first (type A, for an annual fee of approximately 96 thousand euros), consisting of an open surface of approximately 50 thousand square meters, a dock 176 meters long and approximately 5 thousand and 800 square meters of related water surface, aimed at establishing a shipyard for hauling, launching, construction, careening, maintenance, repair and storage of megayachts up to 100 meters long; the second (type C, with an annual fee of just over 21 thousand euros), with an open surface of 12 thousand and 500 square meters and related dock on the internal canal of the outer harbor, for similar services intended for boats up to 25 meters long. Based on the proposals submitted, in both settlements the company will build two modern warehouses, architecturally similar and innovative, which will house offices and operational areas. All external areas, as proposed by the other participants for the relative lots approved for concession, will be landscaped with native species, in order to mitigate the impact on the surrounding landscape.
The temporary association of companies, composed of the Sa Perdixedda shipyard and SCA.FE Srl, obtained two lots, both behind the dock: one (type D and annual rent of 12,400 euros) of 7,000 square meters, for the establishment of a shipyard for storage, artisan workshops and other complementary activities (carpenters, plumbers, electricians, interior designers, etc.) dedicated to boats up to 15 meters, and one (type E, rent of just over 6,000 euros) of 3,500 square meters, for identical commercial operational purposes.
Lastly, ICN Srl – Iannella Costruzioni Metalliche e Navali, which submitted an offer for a landlocked lot, also of type D (for a rent of approximately 15,500 euros per year).
The assignment of the lots still available – there are 11 in total – will take place on the basis of the same criteria established in the public tender procedure of September last year.
"The process of assigning the lots of the recreational boating shipbuilding district can be considered a historic success that opens the way to a new season of entrepreneurial and economic growth for the South of the Island and beyond", explains Massimo Deiana, President of the Port Authority, "in the first six lots awarded, some of the sector's excellences will soon be established, which will be able to count on adequate and modern spaces and infrastructures that will provide the necessary propulsive push to quickly get the shipbuilding market off the ground and drive the recreational boating market. The nascent technological and industrial base of Luna Rossa certainly deserves special attention, which officially strengthens the double-threaded bond with Cagliari and Sardinia, a natural environment and home where to prepare entirely their sporting challenges".
