The ecological island of via San Tommaso D'Aquino occupies parking spaces, it should be moved. The inhabitants of Monreale in Cagliari say so.

"We had made a written report," says the vice president of the neighborhood committee, Elisabetta Manella, "it is of no use to the residents, because the condominiums have paid out of their own pockets for suitable spaces in the courtyards to put the condominium bins. The eco-island instead creates inconvenience: there is abandoned waste all around and above all, it takes up four parking spaces, in an area where there is a lack of parking. We want it removed from Monreale."

Last Wednesday the committee met with the Environment Councilor Luisa Giua Marassi, who said that the eco-island also serves other areas of Pirri, not just via San Tommaso D'Aquino. The soil hygiene office promised that it will try to find a solution that works for the residents. The committee also reported problems related to street cleaning, weed control and cleaning of uncultivated municipal areas and the recovery of the "Monreale park".

«Due to the presence of abandoned buildings and construction sites, there is a landfill of materials and garbage of all kinds», highlights Manella, «even in the municipal green areas, which are also infested with spontaneous vegetation that favors the proliferation of mice and insects».
