Cagliari, illegal encampment and waste in Buoncammino: "This is anything but a tourist city."

Rubbish, decay, and illegal encampments in the area surrounding the former Buoncammino prison. City councilor Ferdinando Secchi of the Lega-Anima Sardegna party, denouncing the situation in a question, describes a "total lack of enforcement affecting one of the city's most historic, cultural, and scenic areas."

The area affected, specifically, is the one surrounding the small church of Santissimi Lorenzo and Pancrazio, the former Buoncammino prison, and the adjacent ancient Roman road.

The main problems highlighted by Secchi are illegal camps and overnight stays, indiscriminate waste dumping, and serious sanitation issues associated with outdoor toileting. Finally, the opposition representative denounces continued unregulated access.

"It's unacceptable," Secchi attacks, "that such an important historical and cultural heritage, which intersects with a thousand-year-old Roman road, should be left to the mercy of neglect and abandonment. This situation raises doubts about Cagliari's true 'tourist vocation.' If such important areas aren't protected and enhanced, the narrative of Cagliari as a tourist attraction loses all credibility."
