A fire broke out this evening around 6pm in the abandoned area of the former Meloni stable, in Viale Trieste in Cagliari , the space occupied by ruined buildings and covered by spontaneous greenery in front of the CTM offices.

A fire brigade team intervened on site and had no great difficulty in putting out the flames, which also involved plastic material.

Those lands, which hosted the former Trieste barracks, were recently at the center of a tug-of-war between the Municipality and the Region: there Villa Devoto wanted to build the new offices, included in the program agreement - later canceled - for the construction of the stadium and the city's only hospital.

Formerly a homeless shelter, the space was recently declared a protected cultural asset by the Superintendence. The subject of continuous redevelopment proposals, it has remained an unused space. And today someone started the fire.
