Only one competent doctor for the San Michele and Businco del Brotzu hospitals, for approximately 4,000 employees. This is what has been happening since Tuesday 1 April, with the end of service by the competent doctor in charge of Ssd Medicina. «A critical situation», the complaint from Usb Sanità. «This shortage is alarming, since the competent doctor has the task of ensuring the health surveillance of workers, carrying out inspections, managing risk assessments and contributing to the monitoring of working conditions. Article 18 of Legislative Decree 81/08 underlines how crucial it is to have an adequate number of competent doctors able to meet the needs of such a large group of workers».
The union, in the note signed by Gianfranco Angioni, recalls how health surveillance is "an indispensable element to prevent and protect the health of employees . The duties of the competent doctor include carrying out inspections, evaluating documents relating to professional risks, and providing qualified advice". The risk highlighted, in the event of a lack of an adequate number of competent doctors, "is that of compromising the health of workers and the effectiveness of prevention and protection measures , necessary to guarantee a safe working environment, with consequences both for workers and for Arnas Brotzu as a whole".
Following this situation, Usb Sanità is asking for immediate intervention from the top management of Brotzu to restore the adequate number . "We cannot even think of considering a single competent doctor sufficient, who certainly cannot be held responsible for any harm caused to anyone, given the vastness of the staff involved. Ignoring this request will lead to disastrous consequences, both in terms of the health of the workers and the image of Arnas Brotzu".
In the absence of a rapid intervention to hire new competent doctors, the union announces the possibility of starting protest actions .
