Fire in front of the mosque on Via del Collegio in Cagliari.

Carabinieri officers from the Cagliari Stampace station arrived on site to conduct investigations: initial investigations suggest the fire was started by unknown assailants who may have used flammable liquid.

The flames engulfed some plastic flowerpots along the road, then spread and blackened the entrance gates near the Muslim community's place of worship.

The residents' intervention was crucial, managing to extinguish the flames before the firefighters arrived, thus avoiding even more serious damage.

The Carabinieri are currently investigating to determine the circumstances of the incident.
